CLASS OPTIONS

JAZZ

Jazz is a continually changing and evolving genre encompassing many styles such as Broadway, Musical Theatre, Hip Hop, Funk and Lyrical to name a few.

ATOD has developed a unique approach to educating students in a classroom environment. The Jazz Moves Syllabus encompasses all styles from foundation Jazz to the very latest moves.

TAP

The ATOD Tap syllabus is a technically based yet modern tap syllabus. With industry professionals Paul Davis and Shane Preston (former Tap Dogs) involved in the development of the work.

An obvious attribute of the syllabus is that there is a focus on development and continuity throughout the levels. Use of the head, arms, corner and travelling steps provide a superb foundation for the performance work. This Syllabus is Tap Training at its best.

BALLET

The ATOD Classical Ballet syllabus was designed by the ATOD Classical Ballet Core Committee which includes well known ballet teachers, examiners and Graduates of The Australian Ballet School.

The accompanying music was created by Gary Dionysius, Company Pianist for The Queensland Ballet. The Classical Ballet syllabus is designed to enable students to master grace and precision while executing intricate movements.

CONTEMPORARY

Industry professional Adam Wheeler in conjunction with other industry professionals, created a well structured training program suitable for inclusion in main stream dance studios.

The ATOD Contemporary syllabus ensures students are being prepared for audition classes and maximising their potential future dance opportunities.

POINTE

Based on the methods by renowned physiotherapist, author, speaker and creator of The Ballet Blog, PPA requires all pointe students to undertake 6 to 12 months of pre-pointe classes prior to undertaking a physio assessment prior to commencing pointe work.

When students move onto the next stage of pointe work, they continue to train under the framework developed by Principal Artiste, Vicki Attard, and Lisa Howell's unique program which covers safe dance practices and aesthetic components, that combine to create successful classical dancers.

HIP HOP

Hip Hop is a unique and exciting style of street dance that has taken the dance culture by storm. Whilst it originated as informal street dance it has further evolved onto the stage and screen and into an audience favourite.

Hip Hop Dance generates a different level of fun and creativity with it being fast-paced and high in energy while requiring powerful and sharp movements.

ACROBATICS

Acrobatic Dance (Acro) is the beautiful fusion of classic dance technique and the precision and athleticism of acrobatic elements.  Often defined by unique choreography, acro dancers seamlessly blend musicality, emotional expression, lines and extension with acrobatic movements in a dance context.

Acro is an especially challenging style for dancers to master as training in both dance and acrobatic elements is required.  Acro technique includes balancing, limbering, tumbling and partnering, based in flexibility, contortion and strength.

TUMBLING

Tumbling is an extension class on top of the Graded Acrobatics classes held at PPA.

Tumbling classes are designed for students undertaking Junior Acro and above. These classes allow students to continue working on strength along with tumbling exercises down the matt, including cartwheels, front ariels, no handed cartwheels, back flips and saults.

STRETCH, TURNS, LEAPS

Stretch, Strengthening, Turns and Leaps classes are available to all students. Encompassing a cardio warm up, with safe dance qualified instructors, providing stretching and strengthening exercises to assist each dancer with their flexibility, turn out and overall fitness. Students will also participate in turning and leaping combinations which continue to push students to new levels. Each stretch class varies from week to week to ensure students are continually improving.

LYRICAL

Lyrical is a beautiful and fluid dance form that combines the techniques of jazz, contemporary and ballet. Lyrical allows dancers to use their bodies to interpret the music and teaches grace, control and flow of movement. Routines are expressive and often choreographed to reflect the lyrics and tell a story.

This style is a great accompaniment to ballet classes as it teaches students how to use ballet techniques to extract meaning and emotion from dances.

ADULT FUN CLASS

Tap dance is an amazing way to keep yourself active and to give those thighs an awesome workout. Designed from beginner dancers, this class will ensure you get a great workout, learn many new skills and have a laugh while doing so.

Students will learn the basics of tap and apply them to combinations each week, to keep your body and mind active. If you are recovering from an injury there are also low impact options available for each step.

Classes in Jazz, Tap, Ballet & Acro to get boys and girls between the ages 2 and 4 wiggling and giggling, while growing their confidence, imagination and coordination.
